OUR MISSION
The Calculs PPP class aims to use our calculus knowledge to engage with, support and help our community. We plan on designing and producing different practical items and selling them to raise funds for causes that are important to us. In addition, we will be using Calculus to understand the world around us (such as analysing Climate data using derivatives) and using various mathematical tools to manage our fundraising accounts.
Second Semester
We will be raising money for La Casa de la Madres as well as Wikipedia during our May fundraiser.
The mission of La Casa de las Madres is to respond to calls for help from domestic violence victims, of all ages, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They give survivors the tools to transform their lives. They seek to prevent future violence by educating the community and by redefining public perceptions about domestic violence. Since 1976, La Casa de las Madres has provided 3.8 million minutes of counseling to survivors of domestic violence, provided shelter for 14,060 survivors of domestic violence, and helped 80,000 individuals onto a path free from fear and abuse. La Casa de las Madres is located at 1269 Howard St, San Francisco. To find out more, visit: https://www.lacasa.org/
Wikipedia is a free online encyclopedia, created and edited by volunteers around the world and hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation. Since many LWHS students are avid users of the service, we thought it would be appropriate for us to donate the first $50 we raise this semester to Wikipedia and the rest of our proceeds will go to La Casa de las Madres.

First Semester Progress
The Earth Island Institute was founded in 1982 and is a vessel for smaller environment focused grassroots projects and agencies to organize and get resources. They are also able to offer legal protection and advocacy for environmental rights. The name Earth Island was inspired by renowned anthropologist Margaret Mead. Some of their values are nature, passion, boldness, innovation. Currently Earth Island is organizing over 70 different projects on topics ranging from advocating for clean water in Alaska to beach cleanup initiatives and even a Bay Area project to teach kids wilderness skills! Earth Island also researches and reports on climate and environmental issues and relevant articles can be found on their website. Another main objective of Earth Island is to inspire young people to take action to do something to make the world a better place. Our Calculus class has decided that this is the organization that we will donate all the proceeds from our fundraiser to because we all believe that climate change is an urgent issue that demands immediate action. We hope we can make a difference by supporting Earth Island!
